

John
Corcoran's
professional career path and business is a merger of his teaching
career, real estate investment, building and development experience,
and his passion for a literate America. His background in teaching
is evidenced through his commitment to share his knowledge and
experience with others.
He is the author of the book, "The
Teacher Who Couldn't Read", has served on numerous
advisory commissions and corporate boards, a member of the board
ofthe San Diego Council on Literacy and a recent board member
of the National Institute for Literacy, appointed by President
Bush and continued under President Clinton. He has testified before
the U.S. Congress Sub-Committee on Early Childhood Education and
Family and to the Sub-Committee on Oversight and Investigation
for the Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities.
His responsibilities in the building and development process involve
interfacing with investors, lenders, attorneys, accountants, governmental
agencies, architects, engineers, contractors and brokers. John's
entrepreneurial spirit and management expertise have been demonstrated
in his various professional roles over the past 35 years.
John is a
nationally known and respected speaker who has spoken in 43 states
to students, professional and volunteer teachers, civic groups
and organizations, as well as to small businesses and Fortune
500 companies. He has appeared on 20/20, Larry King Live, The
Oprah Winfrey Show and has done over 150 radio and T.V. interviews
including Dr. James Dobson's "Focus on the Family."
For the past seven years, John's primary business activities have
been the creating, developing, marketing and sales of services
and products (including electronic) that promote and impart basic
language skills and literacy values to children and adults, in
the home, schools and the workplace.
John formalized his literacy visions and, along with a diversified
group of individual business and professional people, founded
The John Corcoran Foundation, Inc., whose mission is:
To facilitate the eradication and prevention of adult illiteracy
in America through the
creation and dissemination of resources, training, mentoring and
public awareness
through existing literacy organizations and educational programs.
John is presently the President of this Not-for-Profit Foundation.
He and his wife have lived in Oceanside, California for over 30
years. They have two adult children and three grandchildren. John
is also a Paul Harris Fellow.
